The story of the Airline Dairy Creme starts and ends with family.
Four generations, to be precise.
On Valentine’s Day in 1964, Frederick Krimm and his namesake son opened the Dairy Creme next to the Airline Theatre, which they owned and managed. In the heart of the “Crossroads of America” across from the Dayton Airport, a local landmark was born.
Over the decades, the business expanded to include a dining room and landscaped patio dining. The menu, which initially offered soft serve ice cream and 19-cent hamburgers “with all the trimmings,” now carries a variety of sandwiches, homemade soups, popular soft pretzels and delectable ice cream concoctions, like our trademark peanut butter shakes. All prepared fresh.
This entrepreneurial father-son team did not build a franchise. They built a local legacy.
Today, the Airline Dairy Creme is owned and operated by Allen & Sarah Lay, with help from family members and a staff that appreciates old-fashioned family values.
In a fast-paced world, the Airline Dairy Creme is a throwback to simpler times. Our family motto is timeless: “We sell happiness, by the cup or the cone.”
